Grant Us Access to Your LinkedIn Ads
To manage your LinkedIn advertising, we need access to your ad account and ideally your company page. How you do this depends on your setup.
Which method should I use?
Not sure? Quick way to check:
- Go to business.linkedin.com and sign in.
- If you see a Business Manager dashboard with your company name, use the Business Manager method.
- If you don’t have one or you’re not sure, use the Campaign Manager (Legacy) method.
You have a Business Manager
If your company uses LinkedIn Business Manager, this is the easiest way to get us set up.
You don’t have a Business Manager
If you manage your LinkedIn ads through Campaign Manager without a Business Manager, you’ll use the legacy method. There are two quick steps: granting access to your ad account and to your company page.
Who will be managing your account?
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Name | Ben Hawkshaw-Burn |
| LinkedIn profile | linkedin.com/in/benhawkshawburn |
| benhb@geekytech.co.uk |
Ben is our CEO, and his LinkedIn account is how our PPC team manages all client campaigns. You only need to add Ben, and we take care of the rest from there.
Option A: Grant Access via Business Manager
If your company uses LinkedIn Business Manager, follow these steps. It’s a two-part process: first you invite Ben to your Business Manager, then you assign him to your ad account.
What you’ll need
- Access to your LinkedIn Business Manager (you need to be a Business Manager Admin)
- About 5-10 minutes
Who to add
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Name | Ben Hawkshaw-Burn |
| benhb@geekytech.co.uk | |
| LinkedIn profile | linkedin.com/in/benhawkshawburn |
TIP
Business Manager invitations go by email, so Ben doesn’t need to be in your LinkedIn network for this to work.
Part 1: Invite Ben to your Business Manager
- Go to linkedin.com/businessmanager and sign in.
- Pick your Business Manager from the list if you’ve got more than one.
- Click People in the left menu.
- Click the Invite people button (top-right corner).
- Enter Ben’s email: benhb@geekytech.co.uk
- Set the Business Manager role to: Contractor
- Click Invite.
Ben will get an email invite and needs to accept it before you can do the next bit.
Why “Contractor”?
LinkedIn has three Business Manager roles: Admin, Employee, and Contractor. Contractor is the one designed for external partners like agencies. It lets Ben access your ad accounts without giving him control over your Business Manager settings.
Invite not showing up?
You can resend it from the People page (look for the resend icon next to pending invitations), or share the activation link directly.
Part 2: Give Ben access to your ad account
Once Ben has accepted the invite, you need to assign him to your specific ad account.
In the left menu, click Ad accounts.
Click the name of the ad account you want us to manage.
- Click the Add people button (top-right).
- Find and tick Ben Hawkshaw-Burn.
- Click Assign role (top-right).
- Pick the role: Account Manager
- Click Add.
Don’t skip this step
Being invited to your Business Manager doesn’t automatically give Ben access to your ad accounts. You need to assign him to each ad account separately.
| Permission | Included? |
|---|---|
| View campaign performance | Yes |
| Create and edit campaigns | Yes |
| Create and edit ads | Yes |
| Manage user access on the account | Yes |
| Edit account details | Yes |
| View billing history | Yes |
| Change billing/payment details | No |
This gives us everything we need to manage your campaigns and set up conversion tracking, without access to your billing.
Part 3: Company page access (recommended)
For us to create and manage Sponsored Content (the ads that show up in people’s LinkedIn feeds), we also need access to your company page.
- In the left menu, click Pages.
- Pick your company page.
- Click Add people or Manage access.
- Find Ben Hawkshaw-Burn.
- Give him at least Sponsored Content Poster access.
- Click Save.
Do I have to do this?
Not strictly, but Sponsored Content is the most common and effective LinkedIn ad format. Without page access, we can’t run those for you. We’d recommend doing it.
Once all three parts are done:
- Our PPC team can manage your campaigns through Ben’s account.
- You stay in full control of your Business Manager. You can change or remove access whenever you want.
- We’ll confirm everything’s connected and ready to go.
- Go to your Business Manager > People.
- Find Ben Hawkshaw-Burn.
- Click the options menu and hit Remove.
This removes his access to everything in your Business Manager at once.
Option B: Grant Access via Campaign Manager (Legacy)
If you don’t use LinkedIn Business Manager, follow these steps instead. There are two parts: giving us access to your ad account and your company page.
What you’ll need
- Access to your LinkedIn ad account in Campaign Manager (you need to be an Account Manager or higher)
- Admin access to your LinkedIn company page
- Ben needs to be in your LinkedIn network (3rd-degree connection or closer)
- About 10 minutes
Who to add
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Name | Ben Hawkshaw-Burn |
| LinkedIn profile | linkedin.com/in/benhawkshawburn |
| benhb@geekytech.co.uk |
You’ll need to be connected
The legacy method needs Ben to be in your LinkedIn network (1st, 2nd, or 3rd-degree connection). If he doesn’t show up when you search, connect with him on LinkedIn first, then try again.
Part 1: Ad account access
- Go to linkedin.com/campaignmanager and sign in.
- Click on the account name for the ad account you want us to manage.
- Look for Account settings in the left menu.
- Click Manage access.
- Click Add user.
- In the pop-up, paste Ben’s LinkedIn profile URL:Â https://www.linkedin.com/in/benhawkshawburn/
- Pick Ben Hawkshaw-Burn from the dropdown.
- Set the role to:Â Account Manager
- Click Save changes.
| Permission | Included? |
|---|---|
| View campaign performance | Yes |
| Create and edit campaigns | Yes |
| Create and edit ads | Yes |
| Manage user access | Yes |
| Edit account details | Yes |
| View billing history | Yes |
| Change billing/payment details | No |
Part 2: Company page access
For us to run Sponsored Content (the ads that appear in people’s LinkedIn feeds), we need admin access to your company page too.
- Sign in to LinkedIn and go to your company page.
- Click Settings in the left menu.
- Select Manage admins.
- Click the Page admins tab.
- Click Add admin.
- Search for Ben Hawkshaw-Burn.
- Pick the role:Â Super admin
- This gives us full access to the page and Sponsored Content.
- Prefer something more limited? Content admin works too for posting and managing content.
- Click Save.
Ben needs to follow your page
LinkedIn requires the person being added to follow your company page first. If Ben doesn’t show up in the search, let your GeekyTech account manager know and we’ll sort it out.
| Role | What they can do |
|---|---|
| Super admin | Full control, including managing other admins |
| Content admin | Post content, manage comments, view analytics |
| Analyst | View page analytics only |
You can also give separate Paid Media roles:
| Paid Media Role | What they can do |
|---|---|
| Sponsored Content Poster | Create and sponsor ads from the page |
| Lead Gen Forms Manager | Download leads from Lead Gen Forms |
| Landing Pages Manager | Create and edit landing pages |
We’d recommend Super admin for the smoothest experience. At minimum, we need Sponsored Content Poster to run feed ads.
Once both parts are done:
- Our PPC team can manage your LinkedIn campaigns and Sponsored Content through Ben’s account.
- You’re still the account owner. You can change or remove access anytime.
- We’ll confirm everything’s connected.
Ad account:Â Campaign Manager > your account > Account settings > Manage access > find Ben > Remove.
Company page:Â Your company page > Settings > Manage admins > find Ben > Remove.
LinkedIn Ads: Common Issues
Running into trouble? Here are the things that come up most often.
"I'm not sure if I have a Business Manager"
Quick way to check:
- Go to linkedin.com/businessmanager and sign in.
- See a Business Manager dashboard with your company? You’ve got one. Follow the Business Manager guide.
- Don’t see anything / get an error? You don’t have one. Follow the Campaign Manager (Legacy) guide.
"I invited Ben to Business Manager but he can't see my ad account"
This is the number one thing that catches people out. Being invited to your Business Manager doesn’t automatically give access to your ad accounts. You need to:
- Go to Ad accounts in the left menu.
- Pick the ad account.
- Click Add people and assign Ben the Account Manager role.
Full steps are in Part 2 of the Business Manager guide.
"I can't find Ben when searching"
Depends which method you’re using:
Business Manager:Â You don’t search for Ben. You enter his email address (benhb@geekytech.co.uk). No LinkedIn connection needed.
Campaign Manager (Legacy):Â You search by name or LinkedIn URL. Ben needs to be in your LinkedIn network (3rd-degree or closer). If he doesn’t show up:
- Go to his profile:Â linkedin.com/in/benhawkshawburn
- Click Connect.
- Try the search again once connected (or even with a pending request).
TIP
In Campaign Manager, pasting Ben’s full profile URL works better than searching by name: https://www.linkedin.com/in/benhawkshawburn/
"I can't add Ben to my company page"
For company page admin access, the person being added needs to follow your company page on LinkedIn. If Ben doesn’t appear:
- Let your GeekyTech account manager know. We’ll make sure Ben follows your page.
- He also needs to be in your LinkedIn network (1st to 3rd degree).
"I can't find 'Manage access' in Campaign Manager"
Two common reasons:
- Wrong level. Make sure you’ve clicked into the specific ad account first, then look under Account settings > Manage access in the left menu.
- Your ad account is in a Business Manager. If your ad account has been claimed by a Business Manager, the legacy Campaign Manager method gets disabled. You’ll need to use the Business Manager method instead.
Not sure which applies? Ask your GeekyTech account manager and we’ll help.
"I can't find 'Manage admins' on my company page"
You need to be an existing admin of the page:
- Make sure you’re signed in with the LinkedIn account that has admin access.
- Go to your company page.
- Look for Settings in the left menu, then Manage admins.
If you’re not an admin, whoever set up the page will need to add you first.
"I have multiple LinkedIn ad accounts"
Just make sure you’re granting access to the right one. Check the account name and double-check with your GeekyTech account manager if you’re not sure.
"I don't have a LinkedIn ad account"
That’s fine! Let your GeekyTech account manager know and we can guide you through creating one.
"I only want to give ad account access, not company page access"
You can skip the company page part if you want. But without it, we won’t be able to run Sponsored Content ads (which are the most common and most effective LinkedIn ad format). We’d really recommend doing both.
"What's the difference between Account Manager and Campaign Manager roles?"
| Permission | Account Manager | Campaign Manager |
|---|---|---|
| View campaign performance | Yes | Yes |
| Create/edit campaigns | Yes | Yes |
| Create/edit ads | Yes | No |
| Manage user access | Yes | No |
| Edit account details | Yes | No |
| View billing history | Yes | Yes |
We ask for Account Manager because it lets us do everything we need, including creating ads and managing the account properly.
"I want to remove access later"
Anytime:
- Business Manager:Â People > find Ben > Remove.
- Ad account (legacy):Â Campaign Manager > Account settings > Manage access > find Ben > Remove.
- Company page:Â Settings > Manage admins > find Ben > Remove.
Still stuck?
Just reach out to your GeekyTech account manager. We’ll walk you through it.
