Grant Us Access to Google Merchant Center

If you run Shopping campaigns or Performance Max campaigns, we need access to your Google Merchant Center so we can manage your product feeds, fix disapprovals, and keep everything running smoothly.

Step 1: Open Google Merchant Center

step 1
  1. Go to merchants.google.com and sign in.
  2. Make sure you’re signed in with the Google account that has Admin access to your Merchant Center.

Got multiple Merchant Center accounts?

If you manage more than one, check the account name in the top-left to make sure you’re in the right one. Your GeekyTech account manager can confirm which account we need access to.

Step 2: Go to People and Access

  1. Click the Settings icon (gear/cog) in the top-right corner.
  2. Select People and access.

Step 3: Add our email

step 1
  1. Click the blue + button (Add user).
  2. Enter our email address: team@geekytech.co.uk
  3. Select the role: Admin
  4. Click Add user.

We’ll get an email invitation and accept it from our end. Until we accept, you’ll see our email listed as “Pending” in People and access.

Why do we need Admin access?

Admin gives us everything we need to manage your product feeds and Shopping campaigns:

PermissionIncluded?
View products and feedsYes
Edit product dataYes
Manage data sources (feeds)Yes
Link Google Ads accountsYes
Add and remove usersYes
Manage account settingsYes

Why not Standard?

Standard access can’t link Google Ads accounts or manage users. Since we often need to set up or check the link between Merchant Center and Google Ads, Admin saves us from having to come back to you every time something needs adjusting.

How to find your Merchant Center ID

If we ever ask for your Merchant Center ID (for troubleshooting or linking purposes), you can find it in the top-right corner of your Merchant Center dashboard, next to your account name. It’s a number that looks something like 123456789.

Merchant Center roles explained

For reference, here are all the access levels:

RoleWhat they can do
AdminFull access: manage products, feeds, users, settings, and Google Ads linking
StandardView and manage products and feeds, but can’t manage users or link Google Ads
Performance & InsightsView and manage reports and dashboards only
Email-onlyNo account access, just receives email notifications
What happens next?

Once we accept the invite:

  • We can start managing your product feeds and making sure your Shopping and Performance Max campaigns have clean, up-to-date product data.
  • You stay the account owner. You can change or remove our access anytime.
  • We’ll confirm we’re in and flag anything that needs attention with your product data.

Google Merchant Center: Common Issues

Running into trouble? Here’s what comes up most often.

"I can't find People and Access"

  1. Make sure you’re at merchants.google.com (not the old merchant center URL).
  2. Click the Settings icon (gear/cog) in the top-right corner.
  3. Look for People and access in the dropdown.

If you don’t see it, you probably don’t have Admin access. Only Admins can manage users. Ask whoever set up the Merchant Center account to add us or upgrade your role.

"It says the email isn't linked to a Google account"

The email address you’re adding needs to be connected to a Google account. Our email (team@geekytech.co.uk) is already set up as a Google account, so this shouldn’t happen. If you see this error:

  • Double-check you typed the email exactly: team@geekytech.co.uk
  • Make sure there are no extra spaces before or after the address.

"I'm not sure which Merchant Center account is the right one"

If you have multiple accounts, check the account name in the top-left corner. You can also find the Merchant Center ID in the top-right, next to your account name. Share the ID with your GeekyTech account manager and we’ll confirm which one we need.

"I don't have a Merchant Center account"

If you haven’t set one up yet:

  1. Go to merchants.google.com.
  2. Sign in with your Google account.
  3. Follow the setup prompts to create your account.

You’ll need basic business details (name, website URL, country). You don’t need to upload products before inviting us. Let your GeekyTech account manager know if you need help with setup.

"I'm signed in but I can't see my Merchant Center"

You’re probably signed in with the wrong Google account. This is common when people have multiple accounts.

  1. Click your avatar in the top-right corner.
  2. Check which email is shown.
  3. Switch to the Google account that has access to your Merchant Center.

"What about Super Admin?"

In the newer Merchant Center, there’s a Super Admin role that’s managed through Google Business Manager (business.google.com/manager), not through Merchant Center itself. You don’t need to worry about this for granting us access. Regular Admin through Merchant Center is exactly what we need.

"Does this give you access to my Google Ads too?"

No. Merchant Center and Google Ads are separate. Adding us to your Merchant Center only gives us access to your product data and feeds. For Google Ads access, see the Google Ads guide.

That said, if your Merchant Center isn’t already linked to your Google Ads account, we may ask for your help getting that connection set up. Admin access in Merchant Center lets us send the link request, and you (or we) would need to approve it in Google Ads.

"I added the user but it still says Pending"

That just means we haven’t accepted the invitation yet. We get an email from Google and need to click through to accept. Give it a day or two. If it’s been longer than that, let your GeekyTech account manager know and we’ll check on it.

"I want to remove access later"

No problem:

  1. Go to merchants.google.com and sign in.
  2. Click Settings (gear icon) > People and access.
  3. Find team@geekytech.co.uk in the list.
  4. Click the three dots next to it and select Remove.

Still stuck?

Just reach out to your GeekyTech account manager. We’ll sort it out.
